In the northern part of the island of Kerkyra, or Corfu, halfway between Kassiopi and Roda with wonderful views across to the Albanian coast, you’ll find the charming town of Acharavi, Αχαράβη in Greek.
This popular tourist destination is particularly ideal for families and couples, situated just 40 kilometres from the airport with a beach within a pleasant 10-minute walk.
During the drive to Acharavi, roughly an hour by car, you’ll be captivated by the lush, mountainous landscape of northern Corfu and pass through several picturesque traditional Greek villages that are absolutely enchanting.
The town is the most developed settlement in the northern part of the island and boasts plenty of cafés, tavernas, bars, nightlife venues and shops. In the older quarter, you can explore the fascinating remains of the Roman Baths, which were discovered by chance during renovation work and are now protected by the Greek Ministry of Culture.
The beach of golden sand is well-equipped and lined with cafés. The bay stretches for 3 kilometres and is perfect for children, as the sea remains shallow up to 50 metres from the shoreline. Close to Acharavi you’ll find several other long stretches of fine sand, and we’d thoroughly recommend walking the stunning inland trails that offer breathtaking views.
Acharavi offers a wide range of accommodation options that are budget-friendly too. The choice is excellent: you can pick from hotels, apartments and studios, or splash out on spectacular luxury villas complete with swimming pools.
Coaches run regularly to this part of the island throughout the day, but the best way to explore – whether you’re staying in Acharavi or keen to discover Corfu’s many hidden beaches – is to hire a car and enjoy the freedom to travel at your own pace.
