Off the north-western coast of Corfu, between 2 and 7 nautical miles out, lie 3 small islands that are true Mediterranean gems. We’re talking about the Diapontie Islands, 5 tiny slivers of land that remain largely undiscovered and untouched by mass tourism. The largest – and only inhabited – are Erikoussa, Mathraki and Othonoi.
Erikoussa is the most popular, while Mathraki is more wild and rugged, and Othonoi the furthest from Corfu. Hotels are few and far between, small in scale, and nestled within the unspoilt nature that defines these islands. The beaches, equally intimate, are lined with fine sand or shingle.
The Diapontie Islands are accessible by ferry or private boat departing from Corfu Town – a 4-hour journey – or from the ports of Sidari and Agios Stephanos to the north, which take 2 hours and 1.5 hours of sailing respectively.
