Mathraki is the smallest and closest of the Diapontian islands to Corfu’s coastline, just 4 miles away.
The island is remarkably picturesque, and loggerhead sea turtles nest along its long sandy beach. The village of Kato Mathraki, the only settlement on the entire island, is reached by following the road that branches off from the port, where you’ll find everything you need to refresh yourself.
Mathraki is long and narrow: the western coastline is jagged and dotted with high cliffs, whilst the eastern shore is flat, home to the island’s beaches.
Particularly striking in the island’s north-eastern section is the beach of Portello, a 3-kilometre stretch of fine red sand that slopes gently into crystal-clear, shallow waters.
Mathraki is crisscrossed by various walking trails that lead to secluded coves and hidden beaches.
