Some 14 kilometres north of Corfu Town lies the resort village of Ipsos, a decidedly touristy spot on the island’s eastern coast.
A firm favourite with younger travellers thanks to its lively nightlife, this compact settlement of low-rise buildings curves gently around the bay, with Mount Pantokrator rising behind. It’s equally popular with British visitors, drawn to the numerous pubs dotting the centre, whilst the quieter area near the small harbour appeals more to families.
Ipsos’s shingle beach stretches for a kilometre and a half, though it’s only between 4 and 8 metres wide, with the main road running behind and a gently shelving seabed. It’s well equipped for water sports enthusiasts.
Whilst Ipsos enjoys good coach connections to Corfu Town, the best way to explore the island is to hire a car, which gives you the freedom and flexibility to travel at your own pace and discover the many hidden coves scattered along the coastline.
Hotels are mostly two-star establishments, though you’ll also find apartments and studios, plus three campsites. There’s no shortage of shops, small supermarkets, bars, restaurants and cafés.
