On the northeastern tip of Corfu, 38 kilometres from the island’s main town, you’ll find Kassiopi, Κασσιόπη in Greek, a charming village that began as a fishing settlement and has developed into a popular tourist destination.
Architecturally delightful, with an attractive central square and a picturesque harbour, the village is also home to the ruins of an ancient Byzantine castle built on Roman foundations.
The entire area, which overlooks the Albanian coast and offers spectacular views from the castle’s bastions, is lush and welcoming for both beach lovers – there are three small beaches right next to the village – and keen walkers alike.
On the left side of Kassiopi sits a fairly spacious rocky bay where you can hire parasols and sunbeds, as well as try your hand at a few water sports. Just beyond the headland, you’ll discover two charming little beaches with crystal-clear waters that are easily accessible via a short walk from the nearby car park.
Behind Kassiopi village looms the imposing Mount Pantokratoras, and the view is truly stunning when admired from afar whilst sailing on a boat. Kassiopi is, in fact, the main port for boat excursions around the whole of Corfu, including trips to the Albanian coastline.
If you decide to stay in this enchanting spot, we’d recommend hiring a car so you can move about freely, whether heading to Corfu Town or exploring the island’s other beautiful bays and beaches.
