Ptichia is a small, wooded islet situated directly opposite Corfu’s main town, roughly 1,200 metres away.
Also known as Vido, a legacy of French occupation, the island was once fortified by the French, but subsequently destroyed under British rule—including the Church of Agios Stefanos, which dated back to 80 AD. Today, besides a restaurant and bar, it is home to a mausoleum commemorating Serbian soldiers who fell during the First World War.
Accessible in just 10 minutes by boat from Corfu Town‘s old port, which runs hourly service, the island boasts two beaches and a coastal footpath. Since 1993, it has been designated a protected nature reserve.
