Wonderful beaches line the southern coast of Corfu. We’ve picked out the finest for you!

To reach Corfu’s beaches, we’d recommend hiring a car – only a handful are served by public transport, which is often overcrowded.

Agios Giorgios

Agios Giorgios beach is an expansive 6-kilometre stretch of sand dunes, fringed by olive groves and cypress trees, extending all the way to Korission Lake. This resort sits on the south-western coast, 33 kilometres from Corfu Town and the airport, and attracts plenty of visitors. Wide and spacious, the beach is well-developed and rightly considered one of the island’s finest. Several secluded coves lie near Agios Giorgios, making it perfect for walkers. The area suits both couples and families seeking a relaxing break with a dash of entertainment.

Boukaris

Near the village of Hlomos, perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the coast between Boukaris on the eastern shore and Issos on the western side, lies a small harbour and the spectacular Boukaris beach, particularly stunning at sunset. The charming village of Neockorakion is equally delightful, with its traditional kafenia providing shade from the sun. Perfect for those seeking authentic Corfu, this area – reached via the road to Lefkimmi – features a succession of small bays with sandy and pebbly shores. It remains refreshingly untouched by mass tourism.

Marathia

On the south-western coast lies the sandy beach of Marathia. Though not particularly wide, it stretches for a full 5 kilometres and offers parasol and lounger rental. Several tavernas overlook the beach. The northern section boasts clearer water, helped along by some rocky outcrops.

Agia Varvara

The beach of Agia Varvara sits near the village of Perivoli, which retains old-world charm with its stone houses and narrow streets, surrounded by olive trees and vineyards. The sandy beach forms the southern extension of Marathia and provides parasol and lounger hire – it’s spacious with shallow waters. Traditional tavernas and cafés line the shore. Nearby lies Gardenos beach, arguably the finest in the south – sandy, expansive and reasonably long.

Kavos

The sandy beach of Kavos sits at the island’s southernmost tip. Exceptionally long at over 3 kilometres, it’s hugely popular with visitors and offers water sports equipment rental, pedaloes and small boats, plus a range of water sports. Dining options abound thanks to numerous Greek and international restaurants, plus various snack stands. It’s ideal for families with young children, as the sea is shallow and facilities are plentiful. Nearby are the sandy beaches of Karoula and Agios Gordis.

Agios Ioanni Peristeron

Agios Ioanni Peristeron is a small strip of sand and pebbles with parasol and lounger rental, mostly on a purpose-built platform due to limited space, located 18 kilometres south of Corfu Town. The water here is pristine and rocks jutting from the sea create a striking backdrop. We’d suggest bringing refreshments and snacks, as the nearest shops are roughly a kilometre away in the village of Moraitika. The surrounding area is thick with lush woodland.

Tsaki

The small beach of Tsaki is predominantly sandy and refreshingly free of tourist facilities. Though the road runs close by, the sea is crystal-clear and calm, enclosed by verdant vegetation and rocky formations.
