Corfu is an increasingly popular island among travellers: thanks to the numerous flights, including budget options, available particularly during the summer season, reaching the island is indeed easy and economical.
Hotels are becoming increasingly widespread and are concentrated in various areas of the island. The main hub is Corfu Town, the nerve centre of tourist activities: here you will find the best facilities and the widest choice available.
However, other areas are becoming increasingly well-equipped, and alongside 3 or 4-star hotels, it is increasingly easy to find apartments that are rented out to tourists. Often these apartments are either part of residential complexes or owned by island residents, who have converted them into tourist accommodation.
From Sidari to Kavos, there are plenty of options. Choosing to stay in locations further away from the east coast, which runs from Ipsos to Corfu Town, allows you to reduce your accommodation expenses quite considerably. Let us look below, location by location, at the pros and cons of each to discover where to stay in Corfu.
In general, the best location to stay in Corfu is in the centre of the island, in Corfu Town (the island’s capital) or in centres such as Benitses and Ipsos. Paleokastritsa, on the opposite coast, can also be a valid alternative. However, if you intend to hire a rental car, you can choose any part of the island.
If you are interested in beaches, you can choose one of the locations mentioned above since they all have beautiful coastlines! Also consider the villages of Sidari, Agios Giorgios, Lefkimmi… you will be spoilt for choice. Use the search engine on this page to find the facility that suits you in one of these locations.
The most suitable villages are Paleokastritsa and Benitses, with equipped beaches and activities for everyone; however, this doesn’t mean there aren’t bars and entertainment for the evenings!
If you are looking for entertainment, be aware that Corfu Town and Ipsos are very popular destinations. You can also choose locations in the south of the island, particularly Kavos, which transforms into veritable British colonies during summer!
In any case, wherever you find your accommodation, don’t miss visiting the villages inland. They are not excessively affected by tourism and still retain the soul of more authentic Greece.

Certainly, this area of the island is the most populated part, where you will find the major tourist attractions. The city of Kerkyra, as it is known in Greek, especially at the height of summer is besieged by tourists. Its historic centre certainly deserves a visit, and the nightlife certainly has something to offer.
The venues cater to people of all ages, and there are traditional restaurants scattered throughout. Prices are certainly a bit higher compared to the rest of the island; on the other hand, proximity to the airport is a point in favour of this area, which remains a zone very popular with families, who appreciate the comforts alongside the classic seaside life.

If you are looking for a peaceful area, this is the place for you. In Paleokastritsa, the sea is particularly clean and the headland with its cliffs offers truly remarkable views. The facilities in this area range from economical apartments, suitable for young couples and families, to higher-end hotels, which attract guests of various ages.
In the evening, the area doesn’t offer much, but it is in a central position on the island, so with a rental car it is possible to reach nightlife hotspots like Ipsos and Dassia in a few minutes.
The location is also ideal for reaching other areas and beaches in the central part of the island.

This location is in the north of the island, in the part of Corfu that overlooks Albania. It is in a somewhat more isolated part of the island, so it suits those who want to stay in one place without travelling around too much.
Sidari is a typical holiday resort, with various types of facilities, hotels and apartments. It is certainly a more authentic Corfu, away from the hustle and bustle of the more central areas. For those who love the sea, the famous Canal d’Amour cliff is a must-see.

The coastline slightly north of Corfu Town is stormed by young visitors, particularly Italians! Hotels are certainly not in short supply here, and you’ll find them in various categories. There are also plenty of apartments, ideal for groups of holidaymakers. The area is full of car and motorbike rental services so you can get around during the day, searching for more beautiful beaches to the north.
For those who don’t want to hire a vehicle, day trips depart from Ipsos port to Albania, Sidari and other destinations. You won’t be short of restaurants, bars, mini-markets, shops, venues and nightclubs, which should cater to all tastes.
The southern part of Corfu was previously an exclusive destination for British tourism. Kavos, one of the southernmost destinations, was the quintessential resort where young British visitors came to have a good time. Today, however, tourism is opening up to other nationalities, and it’s certainly not a destination for those seeking a peaceful and relaxing getaway.
